WASHINGTON (TNND) — The U.S. Supreme Court confirmed Friday that Justice Samuel Alito had to get medical attention while at an event in Philadelphia last month.

CNN first reported that Alito had to be taken to a hospital after falling ill. The court put out a statement confirming that he had to see a doctor.

“Out of an abundance of caution, he agreed with his security detail’s recommendation to see a physician before the three-hour drive home,” the Supreme Court’s statement reads. ““After that examination and the administration of fluids for dehydration, he returned home that night, as previously planned.”

The court said Alito was checked out by a physician and returned to his SCOTUS duties the following day.

The incident happened on March 20, according to The Hill newspaper. It was the same day the Federalist Society was holding a celebration that celebrated Alito being on the higher court for 20 years.

Alito, 76, has not made any plans to retire from his position. If he were to, President Donald Trump could appoint a judge to replace him.

Sources that are close to the judge told CNN that he is considering retiring, but has not made a decision yet.
