Texas A&M-Corpus Christi couldn’t overcome a seven-run first inning by SFA Friday night.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Baseball’s rally fell short Friday in a 13-9 loss to Stephen F. Austin at Chapman Field.
The Lumberjacks scored seven runs in the first inning and nine total off of starter Easten Smith. The Islanders made it interesting by pulling within 11-8 in the sixth before SFA padded its lead in the seventh.
Jackson Smith finished with a pair of homeruns while Cade Sanchez added one as well. Former London Pirate Kade Budd pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball in relief, striking out three.
The Islanders will look to avoid being swept when they face the Lumberjacks Saturday at 2 PM.
