CANYON, Texas (KFDA) – Lubbock Christian swept West Texas A&M in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader Friday at Wilder Park, winning 7-5 and 6-0.
Game 1: Lubbock Christian 7, West Texas A&M 5
The Chaps scored three runs in the second inning. Former Buff Owen Alsup doubled off the left field wall to score Ryan Gargett, and Freddie Nolen followed with a double to right. Roe Forrest added an RBI for a 3-0 lead.
Lubbock Christian extended its lead to 5-0 in the fourth on an RBI single by Carlos Mauldin and a base hit from Dylan Marx that scored Forrest.
The Buffs cut into the deficit in the fifth. Anthony Picciano hit a sacrifice fly to score Tristin Thomas, and Jacob Police tied the game at 5-5 with a grand slam down the left field line.
Kyle Lewis gave the Chaps the lead for good in the sixth with a two-out, two-run hit.
Cade Griffin allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits with two walks and six strikeouts in 5.2 innings.
Game 2: Lubbock Christian 6, West Texas A&M 0
Lubbock Christian scored in the first inning on a West Texas A&M error. Hudson Grace came home to make it 1-0.
The Chaps added four runs in the fourth, including a two-run triple to left center by Forrest for a 5-0 lead.
Forrest hit a solo home run in the sixth for the final margin.
Nick Yeager allowed six runs on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts in five innings pitched. Yeager is now 1-4 on the year.
The teams play the series finale Saturday at 1 p.m.
