Dallas ISD named an interim principal of Woodrow Wilson High School in a letter to families on Monday, Oct. 27 morning.
“Danielle Petters, who previously served as both the executive director of the Woodrow Wilson Vertical Team and as principal at J.L. Long Middle School, will serve as interim principal as of today,” reads the letter from Woodrow Wilson Vertical Team Executive Director Aaron Aguirre-Castillo.
The letter does not mention current Principal Chandra Hooper-Barnett, but it does speak of an incident that is under review. Facebook users speculated that this incident is related to a meeting Hooper-Barnett held with Black students, in which they were blamed for the school’s state accountability rating, and commenters described it as inappropriate and racist (here and here). But Aguirre-Castillo’s letter does not confirm or deny that.
“At Woodrow Wilson High School, we take great pride in delivering high-quality instruction and fostering a strong partnership with our families and community,” the letter reads. “Together, we are shaping the next generation of leaders, and your continued support is vital to our shared success. As you may know, a recent incident occurred on our campus that does not reflect the values and expectations of our school community. Please know that we hear your concerns and are taking the necessary steps to address this matter thoughtfully and thoroughly.”
Questions or concerns can be directed to Aguirre-Castillo at aaguirrecastillo@dallasisd.org or 214-704-5649.
