AUSTIN, Texas — All eyes will be upon the University of Texas football team this weekend as they return to Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium for their first home game in a month. Following what they hope to be a victory against Vanderbilt, the Longhorn’s homecoming celebration will continue with a live performance from legendary rock band The Beach Boys.
The university announced Monday that the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will headline Longhorn City Limits (LCL) this Saturday, a seasonal concert series held at the LBJ Lawn, free for everyone.
The Nightowls, a native-Austin band, will open the event before kickoff at 8:30 a.m. Following the game, The Beach Boys will take center stage at 8:30 p.m.
Known for their hits including “Surfin’ U.S.A,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” and “Good Vibrations,” The Beach Boys formed nearly 60 years ago in California. The band continues to play their surf rock classics to audiences worldwide, with founding member Mike Love at the helm and Bruce Johnston in the lineup.
“The Beach Boys are true American trailblazers whose music continues to bring joy to audiences across generations,” said Chris Del Conte, vice president and Lois and Richard Folger athletics director. “Their timeless hits will make for an unforgettable day at LCL for Longhorn Nation as we once again celebrate live music on the Forty Acres.”
Fans attending LCL may also enjoy other experiences including a Tito’s Tailgate and refreshments from the Bulleit Frontier Lounge. For a truly authentic Texas gameday, Pinkerton’s BBQ — the nine-time standing “Top 50 BBQ Joint” per Texas Monthly — will continue to serve LCL attendees from its first satellite location in Austin.
Gates will open at 8 a.m.
