WICHITA FALLS, Texas (April 4, 2026) – No. 13 Lubbock Christian University continued its strong run through Lone Star Conference play with a pair of road victories over nationally ranked opponents, defeating No. 30 Cameron 6-1 Thursday in Lawton before adding a 5-2 win over No. 19 Midwestern State Friday in Wichita Falls to improve to 14-5 overall while pushing its mark to 9-3 against nationally ranked programs this season, including a 6-3 record against NCAA Division II ranked foes.
Against Cameron, LCU was forced to rally after dropping the doubles point, as the Aggies claimed wins at No. 1 and No. 3, including a victory by the No. 5-ranked tandem of Lukas Janousek and Noe Milliard over the No. 7-ranked duo of Mattia Ghedin and Kelly Giese. The Chaps’ lone doubles win came at No. 2, where No.34-ranked Andres De Los Rios and Pablo Segura earned a 6-1 decision, but LCU quickly flipped momentum in singles play.
No.22 De Los Rios provided the first point with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4, followed by No. 73 Mattia Ghedin with a straight-set victory at No. 3 to give LCU a 2-1 lead. No. 5 Kelly Giese then extended the advantage with a ranked win at No. 1, defeating No. 8 Janousek 6-4, 7-5 for his 13th consecutive singles victory. No.15 Segura added a three-set win at No. 2 to push the lead to 4-1, and Marco Seccia clinched the dual shortly after with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 6. Jordan Georgiev capped the match with a match-tiebreak win at No. 5, completing the 6-1 decision as LCU secured its fourth consecutive victory over Cameron and improved to 2-1 all-time in Lawton.
LCU carried that momentum into Friday’s matchup with No. 19 Midwestern State and avoided falling behind early, as they claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 3 and No. 1. Marco Seccia and Andrea Rossi Principe struck first with a 6-3 win at No. 3, and after a setback at No. 2, the No. 7-ranked tandem of Ghedin and Giese secured the point with a 6-2 victory over the Mustangs’ No. 26-ranked pair.
In singles, Midwestern State evened the match with a straight-set win at No. 2 before taking a brief 2-1 lead following a win at No. 4. Ghedin responded by leveling the dual with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 3, and Seccia followed with a decisive 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6 to give LCU a 3-2 advantage. Giese then delivered the clinching point in a three-set battle at No. 1, defeating No. 14 Germano Setti 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 to extend his winning streak to 14 matches and remain unbeaten against nationally ranked opponents this season. Georgiev added a straight-set win at No. 5 to provide the final margin, as LCU earned its first-ever road victory over Midwestern State and third consecutive win in the series to even the all-time record at 3-3.
Across the two duals, Giese continued to lead LCU’s lineup, extending his winning streak to 14 matches while improving to 27-5 overall and 16-1 in dual play, including a 9-0 mark against nationally ranked opponents. Ghedin also proved pivotal, earning two singles victories to move to 21-10 overall (13-4 in duals) while teaming with Giese to go 1-1 in doubles and maintain a team-best 13-5 record at the No. 1 position. Segura added a key three-set win against Cameron and now sits at 21-10 overall (13-4 in duals), while De Los Rios contributed a singles win in Lawton to improve to 23-11 on the season. Seccia delivered in both duals with two singles victories and helped secure the doubles point against Midwestern State alongside Rossi Principe, as the duo improved to 10-3 at No. 3 doubles. Georgiev also provided a crucial point in each match, including a match-tiebreak win against Cameron and a straight-set victory against Midwestern State.
With the wins, LCU has now captured three consecutive victories over nationally ranked opponents, all on the road, and continues to build momentum heading into its final home dual of the season Thursday against St. Mary’s (10 a.m.) at the Penny Gullo Tennis Center, where the Chaps will celebrate Senior Day.
