SEASIDE, Calif. – Richard Sánchez recorded a three-save shutout as San Antonio FC took a 0-0 draw against Monterey Bay FC at Cardinale Stadium on Saturday night to maintain its undefeated start to the 2026 regular season.
After San Antonio almost had an early mishap that the hosts were unable to capitalize on attempting to retain possession in their own half with goalkeeper Richard Sanchez well outside his penalty area, Monterey Bay threatened first just past the half-hour mark as Omari Glasgow’s first time shot from the right side of the box was saved low by Sanchez. Giorgi Lomtadze also had a good effort for the host a few minutes later, but the game went to the break scoreless.
San Antonio’s Dmitri Erofeev went close for the visitors midway through the second half with a shot from 30 yards that went side of the left post, while inside the final 10 minutes Monterey Bay’s Wesley Leggett forced a good save from Sanchez with a shot from the right side of the penalty area. Neither side was able to find a decisive finish, however, as the points were shared.
Takeaways
Monterey Bay FC – The hosts earned a valuable point with a solid defensive display that gave up few clear opportunities for the Western Conference leaders, but were unable to find a way to capitalize on their opportunities to continue a winless start to the season.
San Antonio FC – SAFC was unable to connect cleanly on its set piece opportunities as it was held scoreless for the second time this regular season, but the visitors will likely be happy with a point after heading on the road following an arduous outing in midweek in the U.S. Open Cup.
