HOUSTON – Houston police say a 3-year-old boy was transported to a hospital after being brought in to an urgent care center with a gunshot wound.
The child was brought to the center in the 8500 block of the Gulf Freeway. Officers were called just after 2 p.m.

Police say the child was shot in the chest and was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He is now in serious, but stable condition and is expected to survive.
Police say two adults, believed to be the child’s parents, drove him to the clinic in a private vehicle. They told officers the shooting was an unintentional or negligent discharge, but right now officers don’t know exactly how it happened.
Officers are searching for the gun involved as well as any possible witnesses.
Right now, it is unclear whether the child gained access to the gun or if someone else was handling it when the shooting happened.
This is the second incident in the Houston area Friday where a child has been shot. In Channelview, a 2-year-old is in critical condition after authorities say he received an unintentional gunshot wound.
