A man died early Sunday morning after he led police on a miles-long chase that ended in a fatal crash, Fort Worth police said.
Around 2:34 a.m. on Sunday, April 5, officers observed a vehicle without headlights on Interstate 35W near Rosedale Street, the Fort Worth Police Department said in a press release. Officers also observed the car hit another vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop, but the suspect’s vehicle continued driving southbound on I-35W.
During the chase, the vehicle hit a second car and again did not stop, police said. The pursuit continued for over 15 miles until the vehicle exited the highway near Tarver Road, south of Burleson.
Officers lost sight of the vehicle but continued searching and found it on the 1500 block of Tarver Road, where it had gone off the roadway and crashed, police said.
Police found two men inside the vehicle, the release states. The passenger exited the vehicle with minor injuries while the driver was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.
No officers or citizens were injured in the chase, police said. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner will identify the man who died.
