The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a homicide investigation following an extensive search for a missing person, officials said Monday.
The Sheriff’s Office received a missing-person call at about 3:40 a.m. when a man didn’t come home from work. A brief investigation led deputies to an area near the intersection of Hodgen and Eastonville roads in the Black Forest region, according to EPCSO spokesman Sgt. Kurt Smith.
Using resources from the Colorado State Patrol and EPCSO’s drone unit, deputies found a deceased adult male near the Woodlake Trailhead, Smith said.
“Based on information and evidence at the scene, we believe that this is potentially a homicide,” he said.
Smith would not elaborate on what evidence prompted a homicide investigation, stating that the El Paso County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of the man’s death.
All persons potentially involved with the case have been contacted and interviewed, but no suspect had been identified as of Monday afternoon. There is no immediate threat to the community, Smith said.
Anyone with information that could aid in the investigation is asked to contact the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office tip line at (719) 520-7777.
