A national survey found that several North Texas suburbs are among the best places to live in the U.S.
These cities aren’t new to national recognition, however. The latest list of best places to live from Niche uses public data to compile lists of rankings for schools and cities.
The 2026 rankings found that Plano, Richardson and Coppell are some of the top places to live in the U.S. The rankings were determined by “public data, proprietary research, and millions of real resident reviews,” according to Niche.
Plano came in at No. 6 on the list of the best cities to live in. Niche considers cities as “an urbanized area with a population of 100,000 or more.”
The city received an overall rating of A+ from Niche, specifically because of its good schools and its compatibility with family life.
“Living in Plano offers residents a dense suburban feel and most residents own their homes,” Niche stated. “In Plano, there are a lot of restaurants and parks. Many families and young professionals live in Plano and residents tend to lean conservative. The public schools in Plano are highly rated.”
Richardson ranked No. 15, receiving an overall grade of A+ too. It received high ratings for its compatibility with families and its nightlife. Local reviewers also highlight Richardson’s diversity and schools.
On the list of best suburbs, Coppell narrowly made the list at No. 25.
A suburb is considered “a place located within a Census-defined urbanized area, but outside the principal city with a population of at least 1,000,” according to Niche.
The city was noted for both its schools and family life.
“Living in Coppell offers residents a dense suburban feel and most residents own their homes,” Niche wrote. “In Coppell, there are a lot of restaurants and parks.”
