No. 2 Red Raiders sweep BYU

  • April 5, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – No. 2 Texas Tech extended its win streak to 13 after defeating BYU (11-25, 2-10) 12-4 on Saturday afternoon in five innings at Tracy Sellers Field. The Red Raiders (38-2, 14-1) used 12 hits to get 12 runs as NiJaree Canady improved to 15-2 in the circle.

Mia Williams led the way on offense, going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI including her 14th home run of the season. Mihyia Davis went 2-for-4 with a double and recorded her 29th stolen base of the season. Jasmyn Burns recorded three RBI after launching her eighth home run of the year. Lauren Allred and Kaitlyn Terry both recorded two RBI and a hit as well. Hailey Toney and Jackie Lis both recorded hits and runs as well.

Taylor Pannell went 1-for-3 with the winning RBI that score Logan Halleman from third to put the run-rule into effect and end another game early. Samantha Lincoln started the game and went 2.2 innings and posted three strikeouts. Canady came into the circle in relief and went 2.1 innings with three strikeouts as well to earn the win.

How it Happened:

The Cougars struck early with a solo home run in the opening frame. Tech responded with two runs off a homer from Williams and the Cougars responded with two more runs to retake the lead in a back-and-forth beginning to Saturday’s contest.

The Red Raiders grabbed the lead back in the bottom of the second after Terry reached on an error that scored Toney and Davis, making it a 4-3 game. After a scoreless third, the Cougars went back to the long ball to tie the game 4-4.

A motivated Texas Tech offense came out in the bottom of the fourth. Davis turned a routine single into a double with her blazing speed and Terry drove her home on a double. Terry then had a hustle play, scoring from second base on a fly ball of the bat of Lis. Her hustle turned a regular out into a sac fly and gave Tech a 6-4 lead with two outs.

More two-out magic for the Red Raiders when Williams and Pannell reached on a single and walk, respectively, with Burns up to bat. Burns took a 1-2 pitch deep over the right field fence for her sixth home run of the season. Desirae Spearman and Toney drew back-to-back walks, and both stole bases to move up to second and third which allowed a single from Allred to score two more runs and make it an 11-4 game going into the fifth.

Canady worked a quick three-up, three-down inning to get the offense back up with a chance to end the game early. Lis drew a walk and the speedy Halleman came into pinch run her for with one out. Williams launched a ball that took a BYU bounce over the fence for a ground-rule double to save the run. The run did come just a few pitches later Pannell put the ball in play allowing Halleman to score from third and end the game.

UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will be back in action this weekend against Utah in Salt Lake City.
