A 74-year-old woman was fatally struck by a car driven by an 86-year-old man who was making a turn on a Downtown El Paso street, police said.

Maria Patrocinio Longoria, of El Paso, was on a crosswalk when she was struck at about 8:15 a.m. on Easter Sunday, April 5, at the intersection of Texas Avenue and Kansas Street, stated a news release issued by El Paso police spokeswoman Detective Judy Oviedo on Monday.

The Special Traffic Investigations Unit determined that Roberto Rodriguez, also of El Paso, was driving a 2011 Volvo S40 on Texas Avenue when he turned onto Kansas and hit Longoria, police reported. Longoria died at the scene.

Investigators noted that failure to yield to a pedestrian was a factor in the deadly collision. The investigation continues.
