HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Police said an investigation is underway after a woman was killed in a fiery crash on a South Loop service road on Monday.
According to the Houston Police Department, the crash happened at about 2:15 a.m. on Monday at 380 South Loop West.
Officials said the driver of a BMW was travelling southbound on the service road when the vehicle left the roadway and hit a curb. The BMW then crashed into a concrete barrier, investigators said, causing the BMW to catch on fire.
According to authorities, another driver stopped and tried to help the BMW’s driver out of the car, but was unable to due to the flames. Houston Fire Department paramedics later responded and pronounced the driver dead at the scene, police said.
The identity of the victim, who HPD described as a 38-year-old woman, is still pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, officials said.
Police said that no other vehicles or people were involved in the crash. The investigation is still ongoing, HPD said.
