Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes.

SAN ANTONIO — The 7500 block of New Sulphur Springs Road, past Loop 1604 in far southeast Bexar County, is shut down as CPS Energy crews respond to a gas line that the utility says was struck by a contractor.

That contractor was working for another entity when it accidentally hit the underground line. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post at 5:41 p.m. that the road was expected to be closed at least through Monday afternoon.

CPS Energy said at 8 p.m. that a crew was still onsite and making repairs. Drivers were encouraged to use alternate routes if traveling through the area.
