Entering the biggest weekend of the regular season, Texas volleyball remains No. 2 in the latest national poll conducted by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
The Longhorns (18-0, 10-0 SEC) are still second only to Nebraska in Monday’s poll after picking up 1,466 points and two first-place votes. The top-ranked Cornhuskers (20-0, 10-0 Big Ten) received 59 first-place votes and have 1,523 points from the AVCA voters.Â
Nebraska and Texas are the only Division I teams in the nation that have yet to lose a match.
Texas beat Ole Miss 3-1 Friday and followed with a sweep Sunday at LSU. Freshman Cari Spears recorded 16 kills across the two matches while earning the SEC’s freshman of the week award for the fifth time this season.
The Longhorns have a chance to secure sole possession of first place this weekend with Friday’s match at No. 9 Texas A&M and Sunday’s home match against No. 3 Kentucky. Texas is half a game ahead of Kentucky (9-0 SEC) in the conference standings, with neither team yet to lose in SEC play. The Aggies (9-1) enter the week in sole possession of third place, one game ahead of Tennessee (7-2).
Friday’s match at Texas A&M starts at 6:30 p.m.
