SAN ANTONIO – In the month of October, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office secured two separate convictions, totalling nearly 80 years behind bars.

In the first case, Ronald St. Amie was sentenced to 40 years after being convicted for the shooting death of Miguel Angel Garza.

According to the court record, the shooting stems from an incident where Amie approached Garza and his companion, inquiring if they had marijuana.

When the victims told Amie that they had none, he became upset and fired multiple shots at the pair, fatally striking Garza.

In a separate case, Reynaldo Rios was sentenced by Judge Joel Perez to 38 years for the murder of Angel Hernandez.

Court record alleges that during a meetup arranged through Instagram, Rios fatally shot Hernandez in front of his apartment complex and fled the scene.

Local authorities, in an effort to identify the suspect, issued a request for public assistance through Crime Stoppers. After a release was published, Rios turned himself in.

Rios provided a statement, saying that he met with Hernandez because he owed him money and claimed he acted out of fear during their encounter.

“Although these sentencings cannot bring back the lives that were lost, they ensure accountability for acts that never should have occurred,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said. “Violence is never the answer, and we will continue to fight every day to pursue justice.”

Both suspects will spend the remainder of their sentences in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
