Texas State infielder Chase Mora broke the program’s all-time home run record Friday, hitting the 37th of his career against Georgia Southern during a doubleheader.

Mora’s record came in the second game Friday. He hit a 1-0 pitcher to left-center field for a three-run home run. It was his sixth home run of the season.

He surpasses current New York Yankees first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, who played from 2007 to 2009 and also leads the Bobcats in career RBIs. Goldschmidt is entering his 16th Major League Baseball season, having been chosen as an All-Star seven times and winning the National League Most Valuable Player award with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2022.

Mora made a statement as a Texas State freshman in 2023, hitting 17 home runs and recording a .317 batting average alongside 57 RBIs. He hasn’t been able to reach those numbers since. He hit 14 homers in 2024 and 2025 with a batting average of .269.

It seemed like Mora might be regaining his form after he began the 2026 season with a dinger. But after hitting another against Baylor, the senior went through a dry spell. He did not hit a home run from Feb. 21 to March 21, collecting only two RBIs during that period.

Mora broke through in a 16-6 run-rule win over Louisiana, when Texas State tied a program record with eight home runs in a single game. A solo shot in the series opener against Georgia State pulled him within one, and he tied Goldschmidt as part of a 9-8 Bobcats loss.

So far this season, Mora is slashing hitting .267 with a .475 slugging percentage. He has 18 RBIs and 27 runs scored over 31 games, all starts, in 2026.
