LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock native’s passion for reading can now be seen in parking lots across the city.
Angela Brink, who also owns her own decorating business, took her trailer and converted it into a mobile bookstore for adults to enjoy.
From struggle to passion
Being a mother of four and owning a business means life is busy for Brink, but that doesn’t stop her from pursuing her passions.
In elementary school, Brink struggled with reading, but once she figured it out, a new love was found. That love has continued into adulthood.
“Whenever stressful times come around, it’s like you can escape into a book for a bit and all of my friends read, and so we would trade books and talk about them,” Brink said.
Thinking outside the box
That camaraderie between friends was something Brink enjoyed, but she describes herself as a mood reader and didn’t want to be confined to a monthly book club selection.
She’s also always wanted to open up her own brick and mortar bookstore, but that option isn’t feasible for her at the moment. This got Brink thinking outside of the box.
“My husband said you know we have this trailer just sitting around in storage, why don’t you convert that?” Brink said.
That’s how Meet Me in the Stacks was born.
Variety of genres
The mobile bookstore features light-hearted love stories to romance and fantasy, to even thriller and horror, giving readers the chance to engage with a form of media in a unique environment.
“You’re almost becoming a different person. You get to live in a different world, there can be multiple series. There are some that are seven books long and you’re so invested,” Brink said.
Brink will be making her way around Lubbock to sell books from her mobile bookstore. The hope is to expand the trailer’s capabilities and offer more options to those who are interested.
“You see me, you stop and you say ‘oh, I’ve been looking for this book’ and being able to give that to people,” Brink said.
Brink said nothing has given her more joy than getting to talk to customers about their love of books.
