The Dallas Cowboys suffered a blowout loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 8, falling 44-24 at Mile High Stadium. With the loss, the Cowboys drop to 3-4-1 and they sit in second place behind the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East.
Dak Prescott and the Cowboys’ offense have been impressive through much of the season so far. But in Sunday’s loss to the Broncos, they didn’t do enough to overcome Dallas’ lackluster defensive unit.
Prescott recorded just 188 passing yards, no passing touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss. The Cowboys finished with 339 yards of total offense and converted on just 4 of 11 third-down attempts.
The Cowboys’ defense put forth yet another terrible effort, allowing six touchdowns from Bo Nix and the Broncos offense. Nix finished the game with 247 yards, four touchdowns and one interception on 19 of 29 passing, and veteran running back J.K. Dobbins amassed 111 rushing yards on 15 carries.
Former Dallas quarterback Tony Romo was on the call for CBS’ broadcast of Sunday’s game. And during the broadcast, he gave a bleak prediction for the remainder of the Cowboys’ 2025 NFL season.
“They’re gonna hover around .500 and it’s gonna come down to a game or two for them to get into the playoffs, because the offense is good enough to win half the games,” Romo said.

In each of the Cowboys’ three wins, they’ve needed to score at least 37 points. In Week 4, they needed 40 points to record an overtime tie with the Green Bay Packers.
The Cowboys’ offense ranks second in the NFL in both yards per game (384.1) and points per game (30.8), trailing only the 7-1 Indianapolis Colts in both categories.

The Cowboys’ defense ranks second-to-last in both yards per game (404.6) and points per game (31.3) allowed. The only NFL team with worse numbers in those categories is the Cincinnati Bengals, who just allowed 39 points and 502 yards to Justin Fields and the previously-winless New York Jets in Week 8.
The Cowboys now turn their attention toward a Week 9 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals next Monday night.
