FABENS, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Police documents reveal that the Fabens man being accused of intentionally crashing into a car and assaulting the driver allegedly did it over a woman.
According to the arrest affidavit, Angel Gustavo Portillo allegedly crashed his gold Ford Focus into the victim’s gray Chevrolet Camaro and then got out of the car and attacked the victim with a crowbar because he had been dating his ex-girlfriend.
The El Paso Sheriff’s Office stated the incident happened on Wednesday at around 5 p.m. near the 1200 block of Bills Street in Fabens.

In the arrest affidavit, deputies describe meeting with two victims, one was the driver, the other the passenger.
The driver told deputies he was dropping off his friend from a doctor’s appointment when Portillo allegedly crashed into them, climbed out of the car and hit him with a crowbar on his shoulder.
The victim explained that he recognized his attacker and believed Portillo attacked him because he was in a relationship with Portillo’s ex-girlfriend.
The victim also told them he knew Portillo since they were in high school and knows where he lives.
The passenger, aka the second victim, also spoke with deputies.
The second victim complained of neck pain, saying that the crash caused him to feel pain in a tumor that he has on the right side of his neck.
The second victim also stated that Portillo didn’t attack him, explaining that Portillo reportedly told him,

According to the arrest affidavit, deputies then met with Portillo’s father at their home.
The father reportedly told deputies that Portillo had come home and hidden the car in the garage.
Deputies said they saw the car was a Ford Focus with damage in the front.
According to the arrest affidavit, deputies also interviewed a man who lives nearby where the alleged attack happened.
The man told deputies that while he didn’t witness the crash, he said he heard a loud bang and saw a man arguing and hitting another man with a crowbar.
Deputies eventually arrested Portillo that same day.
According to the affidavit, after his arrest, Portillo allegedly explained that it was all an accident, saying that he was texting and driving when he crashed.
Portillo denied getting out of the car and attacking anyone with a crowbar.
Jail records show Portillo was booked into the El Paso County Downtown Jail and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to jail records, as of Friday night, Portillo remains jailed under a $40,000 bond.
