EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Community Foundation is joining a nationwide effort to spotlight the value of local journalism with the inaugural “Local News Day” set for April 9.
The event is part of the broader Press Forward initiative, a national network dedicated to strengthening local news through funding, partnerships and community engagement. Press Forward includes more than 40 chapters across the United States working to address financial challenges facing local news outlets and gaps in community coverage.
The El Paso Community Foundation was designated an official Press Forward chapter in fall 2025. Since then, the Press Forward El Paso Chapter has been assessing the needs of the region’s local news environments and identifying opportunities to support its long-term sustainability.
As part of Local News Day, Press Forward El Paso will highlight local journalists and newsrooms on social media, showcasing their contributions to the community.
More information about Local News Day and Press Forward El Paso is available by following the El Paso Community Foundation and Puente News Collaborative on social media.
