Brisket and spare ribs are the main attraction of the Syndicate Smokedown & Music Festival — but the bands are an enticing dessert.

The nonprofit event at the Fort Worth Stockyards kicks off at noon on April 18 with BBQ samples, a pitmaster competition and early sets by Austin singers Weldon Henson and Ellis Bullard and the Houston-based Broken Spokes.

The music fest starts later, with an impressive lineup of country-rock hitmakers and up-and-comers: The East Texas group Whiskey Myers headlines the show at 9:15 p.m., preceded by San Marcos’ Randy Rogers Band (7:30 p.m.), singer-fiddler Amanda Shires, who grew up in Mineral Wells and Lubbock (6 p.m.) and Oklahoma City’s Jason Scott and the High Heat (4:30 p.m).

Founded in 2019, the event benefits agricultural education and youth empowerment in Texas through the Fort Worth Stock Show Syndicate.
