UTA Ambassadors is hosting its second annual A Fallen Maverick event, a ceremony honoring faculty, staff and students who have died from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Fraternity and Sorority Life Community Center.
The event serves as a way for the community to recognize the deceased individuals and show support to the families who have lost loved ones, Mr. UTA Harshdeep Singh said.
“We still support our Mavericks forever,” Singh said.
UTA ambassador Ernesto Galvan said the ceremony differs from their usual events, as this one focuses on respecting and reflecting on the students, faculty and staff who have died.
“We want to show that we appreciate them,” Galvan said. “We think it’s important to have events like these just to honor students past and present.”
Singh said while the ambassadors usually center events around school pride and tradition, sentimental events are something the group would like to focus on in the future.
“I feel like this event is really helpful in terms of bringing that kind of familial aspect to the school,” Galvan said. “UTA is more than a school or an institution, it really is a family, it is a community. We’re there to help each other.”
