Another San Antonio area business has seemingly been locked out of its home, contributing to a trend of restaurant and bar closures, both temporary and permanent, that have hit the city and surrounding municipalities this month. In this case, it’s The Winchester Pub that has been forced to close after its landlord changed the locks on the British bar and grill.
Multiple Facebook users have shared that a lockout notice was reportedly posted to the front door of The Winchester. The notice was issued by the property management company for the Stewart Center, the retail block in Alamo Heights that houses the British pub. MySA reached out to the number listed on the notice and spoke with Patti Stewart, president of the Stewart Center, about the state of The Winchester.
“As far as I know, it’s still not in operation. They shut the business down a few weeks ago,” Stewart told MySA.
The Winchester has been under new ownership since at least July 31, according to social media posts from the pub. The business’s longtime owner, Greg Ploch, wrote that he was selling the business after eight years to pursue a new venture. A Facebook post by 78209 Magazine states that Andrea Castaneda purchased the pub on May 1, 2025, but an article about the acquisition was removed from the magazine’s website.
MySA attempted to contact The Winchester directly by phone, but the business did not answer, and there was no option to leave a message. Additionally, we emailed and messaged the business on social media, but did not hear back at the time of publication.
