TEXAS — Weeks after sexual abuse allegations against César Chávez came to light, efforts to rename streets and buildings in Texas honoring the late civil rights leader are moving fast.
Now, the question isn’t if the names should be changed, but what they should be changed to. Dallas, San Antonio, Houston and Austin city leaders are asking their communities for input.
Gabriel Rosales, an advocate for the name change in San Antonio, said he believes the people who are the most affected should have the most input.
“I think it should be from the people who live on [Cesar Chavez Boulevard] because they’re the ones who have standing,” Rosales said.
