Hale County 4-H members had success this week at the District 2 Meat Judging Contest in Lubbock.
In the meat judging contest, 4-H members are tasked with classifying cuts of meat. According to the Texas 4-H Meat Judging and Identification contest rules, they evaluate and rank them according to their knowledge of industry standards (Placings); identify specific cuts and share their knowledge about the species, primal cuts and cooking methods (Retail Identification); and then they explain their reasoning behind each decision (Reasons).
Twenty-one participants competed on behalf of Hale County. They competed in three different age divisions — a junior division for grades 3-5, an intermediate division for grades 6-8 and a senior division for grades 9-12. Senior division participants are eligible to advance to the state competition.
Hale County took two seniors teams including: (Team 1) James Barker, Jessie Chisum, Kellin Hart, Daphne Moore and (Team 2) Bryleigh Beyers, Mason Hart, Ella Moore and Ryder Rexrode.
Both teams qualified to participate in the Texas 4-H Roundup in June.
Results for the senior teams are as follows:
One Intermediate Division team participated for Hale County. Team members include Kleigh Keys, James Allen Moore, Berklee Schniers and Drake Woerner.

Nine students participated on two different teams in the junior division. Team 1 included Zane Beyers, Gideon Corliss, Macy Moore and Brigham Bernhard. Team 2 included Jaycee Barker, Hannah Corliss, Jordyn Moore, Cauley Parten and Christian Parten.
