EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — In a city that’s already proven it can launch global talent, El Paso reggaeton artist LA Atlas is betting his next move will help put even more local and Latin music on the map.

Inside his studio setup at Beacon Hill Studios, LA Atlas traced his love of music back to childhood.

“Since the beginning I started being interested in the music industry since I was like five years old,” he said.

LA Atlas explained he took guitar classes early on and that music runs in his family. He said his grandfather played in a rock band in El Paso in the 1970s, and that legacy helped spark his own curiosity not just about making music, but about how the industry works.

For LA Atlas, the pull is bigger than lyrics. He described how melodies and instrumentals can communicate emotion in a way that goes beyond words, comparing the way a track comes together to a movie where “everything gets together.”

He said he spent time learning the craft before stepping into the spotlight, including learning production and practicing songwriting before releasing anything. LA Atlas said he began his music career in 2024, after taking a year of classes in 2023 focused on production.

Working out of Beacon Hill Studios carries extra meaning for him because of the space’s connection to El Paso star Khalid and the album American Teen. LA Atlas said being in the studio changes his mindset.

“Whenever I get here, I feel like I get in a different mood more like a professional way,” he said, adding that while he has equipment at his apartment, the studio puts him in “the artist mind.”

He said there have been days he’s stayed there for about 12 hours, ordering food in and pushing to finish and polish songs.

Looking ahead, LA Atlas said he’s focused on building influence rather than chasing fame for fame’s sake.

“Honestly the future seems right seems really bright for me,” he said.

He added that he wants to use his career to create a foundation for artists who come after him and to build community. “I want to put out pass on the map and also the Latin culture because my music in Spanish,” he said.

The interview also spotlighted a new release that dropped Friday, April 3rd. It’s called ‘Hasta Que Salga El Sol”

LA Atlas said the song was not initially meant to be released and that it was recorded and produced in July 2025, nearly a year ago. He described it as a love song based on a true story, centered on the highs and lows of love, and said it was something he needed to say at a time when he felt unheard.

He recalled playing the track for a friend the night after Christmas while out downtown with friends near a bar and hotel. LA Atlas said he was proud of the song but hesitant to share it because it was personal.

A music video is also in the works. LA Atlas said the video was recorded in January, adding it was filmed downtown in the same location. He said the cover art is from El Paso and tied to the video, explaining he rented an apartment for the shoot—in the heart of downtown El Paso. He said he rented the whole floor for the production and used purple lighting, adding he’s excited for people to see it.

As for the sound, LA Atlas previewed the track in the studio and described it as leaning more EDM, with spacious melodies and vocals layered in the background—another sign he’s blending styles while keeping his El Paso roots front and center.
