A new cocktail concept with ties to a popular downtown bar is nearly ready to debut in San Antonio just in time for Fiesta celebrations that will soon take over the city.
Paradise Unknown will open to the public in an official capacity on April 16, according to part-owner Alex Amaro, who had a hand in launching the eclectic bar, Be Kind and Rewind, in 2022. The vibes of the new bar are said to be like a tropical oasis, akin to an island getaway.
“At its core, Paradise Unknown is about escapism,” Amaro said in a news release. “We wanted to create a space where people can walk in from the middle of downtown and feel like they’ve been transported somewhere completely different and a little bit mysterious.”
Cocktails at Paradise Unknown will reflect the tropical theme, and the bar will feature a menu of small bites crafted by chef Jaime Gonzalez of Wok Wey, which fuses Mexican and Chinese cuisines. Like Be Kind and Rewind, Paradise Unknown is highly stylized and designed almost like something you’d see in a movie, with plenty of mood lighting and touches of playful kitsch throughout the space.
“Somewhere between the music, the cocktails, and the glow of a hidden world, guests might find themselves wondering how they got there and why they don’t want to leave,” Amaro said.
Once it launches on April 16, Paradise Unknown will be open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Thursday and from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays and Sundays. Happy hour will run from opening until 7 p.m. daily.
