Members of the Lehman High School baseball team in Kyle are facing allegations of a “potentially serious pattern of bullying.” Parents first brought their concerns to campus administration and the campus-based school resource officer on Tuesday, April 7, launching an investigation that saw Hays CISD announce on Thursday, April 9, that led to the suspensions.

A news release from Hays CISD did not identify what consisted of the bullying on campus but did share that it involved members of the varsity and junior varsity baseball teams at Lehman. Hays CISD landed on the suspensions after a joint investigation by administration and the Hays County Sheriff’s Office. It added that “some of the alleged activity may rise beyond a school disciplinary matter and constitute criminal activity,” making the sheriff’s office the main point of contact.

The Lehman baseball team has forfeited its game against Liberty Hill on Friday, April 10, and the release added that a decision regarding the final two weeks of the season is pending.

“Bullying of any kind is intolerable,” Hays CISD Superintendent Dr. Eric Wright said in the release. “It goes against everything we are about at Lehman High School and in Hays CISD. Our school district family protects and nurtures each other. We establish high expectations for ourselves – our staff and our students – because that is our character. Let our swift action on this case demonstrate that we will not allow bullying and that those who test that demand will meet with swift and serious consequences.”

This is the latest bullying incident to surface around Central Texas sports teams in the last three years.

In 2023, Carter Mannon, a Lake Travis ISD student, was the alleged victim of bullying after a football teammate took advantage of Mannon’s peanut allergy by placing peanuts in his locker. Mannon ended up transferring schools and his parents sued Lake Travis ISD over the incident. Gus Cordova, the alleged culprit, ended up losing a scholarship offer to the Texas Longhorns likely because of his ties to the controversy.

Then in 2025, Comal ISD had to field allegations of a “toxic culture” on the Canyon High School football team in New Braunfels. Parents brought their concerns before the Comal ISD Board of Trustees in December 2025, “pointing to leadership failures, coaching practices and hostility that have left some players demoralized and prompted some to leave the team.”
