UT Dallas to receive $700,000 grant from state for semiconductor training room

The money will help pay for a training cleanroom project on campus.

DALLAS — The University of Texas at Dallas will get a $700,000 grant from the state for a semiconductor project.

Gov. Greg Abbott announced the grant in an April 10 press release. He said the money would be used for a training cleanroom project at the Dallas campus.

In 2023, Abbott signed the Texas CHIPS Act to establish the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund, a grant program that supports semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing, as well as the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium.

“Texas is where the workforce of tomorrow is training for the high-skill, in-demand jobs that support continuous innovation in technology,” Abbott said.

The UT Dallas grant comes from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund.

UT Dallas will equip a small-scale training cleanroom in the Research Operations West building, also home to the Center for Harsh Environment Semiconductors and Systems. It will include equipment to teach individuals basic cleanroom operations, safety and processing.

“This matching grant will enable UT Dallas to advance its semiconductor workforce initiatives across North Texas by establishing a small-scale training cleanroom,” Dr. Joseph J. Pancrazio, UT Dallas vice president for research and innovation, said in the press release.
