Texas Tech regents complete review of course content on sexual orientation, gender identity

  • April 11, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A committee of the Texas Tech System regents has completed an internal review of course content.

The review focused on content related to sexual orientation, gender identity and what Tech labeled as “prohibited advocacy concepts.”

Chancellor Brandon Creighton said the review is to comply with state and federal law.

The committee reviewed more than 14,000 courses offered this spring.

Tech will eliminate degree programs focused on sexual orientation or gender identity. Students already enrolled in these programs will be allowed to finish their degrees.

According to a memo from the chancellor, the committee recommended changes to dozens of courses. The memo listed the count as fewer than 60 courses.

Creighton wrote the Tech system is not waiting to be told what compliance looks like.

“We are defining it for the rest of the state and nation,” Creighton said.
