COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Fans started lining up outside Blue Bell Park on Wednesday in anticipation of the series against Texas.
Fans packed the stands as soon as the gates opened to root the Aggies on to victory.
Texas A&M junior JP DeLeon has camped out since Wednesday, playing poker, doing homework and passing the time.
“We’ve been planning it for a long time, probably at the beginning of the season,” DeLeon said. “And most of us got out here on Wednesday. And it’s just been tough trying to figure out, getting people here to fill in spots during classes and then bouncing the weather, school, and of course, people working all that.”
Tickets for all three games sold out on the 12th Man website, with resale prices topping $500.
Ryan McDaniel, an Aggie baseball fan who drove down from Dallas, said he would not sell his tickets for any amount.
“Zero. And never,” McDaniel said.
DeLeon said he would not sell either.
“No, not a chance. Not a chance. No,” he said.
Lisa Aldrich, a decadeslong Aggie season-ticket holder, said she ordered extra general admission tickets using her points and gave them to friends who are Aggies.
“No way. We even ordered extra general admission tickets because we were able to do so because of our points. And we have given them to friends that we know are Aggies,” Aldrich said.
Fans said the weekend will be electric, something Blue Bell Park has not seen in a long time.
“I mean, it’s just, you know, the whole fandom, right? 203 Olson Field, Bluebell Park,” McDaniel said. “There’s nothing like it in college baseball and anybody that says any different has not been here,” McDaniel said.
DeLeon said the crowd shows Texas A&M is the place to be.
“It just kind of shows that like we’re the place to be,” DeLeon said. “We’re the place you want to come play. You have a crowd that’s behind you every week, midweeks, small conference games, big conference games, non-conference, you’re going to have a crowd every week.”
Aggies in the student section said they will be loud and proud all weekend, continuing the traditions of home run bubbles and chants.
