From fast food runners and cashiers to housekeepers and chefs, hospitality workers help keep the Lone Star State running on a day-to-day basis.

According to a new study from hospitality job platform OysterLink, these jobs are also some of the most in-demand in Texas. So, which hospitality jobs are the most sought after in the state? Here’s the data for almost 60 Texas cities, including San Antonio.

To work out the rankings, researchers used in-house data from user-generated job postings collected from January to March 2026. The final study spotlights “clear patterns in hiring needs at the local level,” with a notable emphasis on quick-service roles.

“Across Texas, we’re seeing a clear demand for operational roles that keep businesses running day to day,” said Milos Eric, general manager and co-founder of OysterLink. “Fast food workers and cashiers dominate because they’re essential, but what’s interesting is how certain cities are hiring more specialized roles depending on their local economy.”

It’s true — fast food workers were named as the Lone Star State’s most sought-after employees, with a total of 17 out of 57 Texas cities requiring the services of approximately 261 workers. In San Antonio, however, housekeepers were the most sought-after workers in the city’s hospitality industry, with a total of 28 job postings open on the OysterLink platform.

Despite being in such high demand, housekeepers and fast food workers are some of the lowest-paid employees in Texas. According to a September 2024 report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, many workers employed within these positions earn less than $15 hourly. However, more specialized hospitality positions, such as hotel managers, can earn up to $100,00 annually or more — especially if the position is under a luxury brand.
