Severe weather risk is increasing Sunday as rounds of showers and thunderstorms continue across the San Antonio area, according to the National Weather Service.
Meteorologists say rain chances are around 80%, and while storms won’t be constant everywhere, any that develop could bring brief heavy downpours, gusty winds, and a low chance for isolated severe weather.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed the area under a Level 2 of 5 risk for severe storms. Highs will stay near the upper 70s with breezy conditions at times.
There’s plenty of moisture in place, which means storms that form will be able to produce heavy rain in a short amount of time. That increases the risk for localized flooding in spots that see repeated rounds of storms.
In the Hill Country, including Fredericksburg and Gillespie County, storm chances remain elevated as well. Some storms could become strong, with gusty winds and hail possible. A line of thunderstorms may move through early Sunday, with rainfall totals over the next few days ranging from a quarter inch up to around 2 inches, with higher amounts possible in heavier downpours, according to emergency officials.Â
Storm chances continue Sunday night before gradually easing after midnight.
Looking ahead, the active weather pattern continues into next week, with daily chances for showers and storms and highs staying in the 80s.
