Texas A&M highest-ranked SEC team for first time in program history

  • October 14, 2025

(KBTX) – The Texas A&M football team moved up one position to No. 4 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 after beating Florida 34-17 in Kyle Field Saturday.

The Aggies (6-0, 3-0) hopped previous No. 4 Ole Miss (6-0, 3-0) who narrowly beat Washington State (3-3), 24-21, Saturday. It marks the first time since A&M joined the Southeastern Conference that the Aggies are the highest-ranked team in the SEC.

However, previous No. 7 Indiana (6-0) moved past A&M to No. 3 after taking down previous No. 3 Oregon 30-20 Saturday in Eugene.

The Aggies also sit at No. 4 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

It is the 84th week the Aggies have been ranked in the top 5 all time, last coming in at No. 4 during the 2020 season. A&M earned that No. 4 ranking after defeating North Carolina in the Orange Bowl to end the year. A&M last earned a ranking inside the top 4 in 1995, when it held the No. 3 ranking for the first five weeks of the season.

In the history of the AP poll, A&M has been ranked No. 2 12 times and No. 1 seven.

The Aggies as the highest-ranked Southeastern Conference team, the Aggies sit behind No. 1 Ohio State (6-0), No. 2 Miami (5-0) and No. 3 Indiana. They are one of five SEC schools in the top 10 this week.

No. 10 LSU (5-1), No. 16. Missouri and No. 21 Texas are ranked opponents remaining on the Aggies’ schedule.
