Large hail and thunderstorms continue to threaten South Central Texas and the Texas Hill Country this week as a storm system sweeps the state. Now, the National Weather Service says these risk continue to loom well into Tuesday, April 14.

On Monday night, a large chunk of South Central Texas – from San Antonio up to Burnet and over to Rocksprings – are under some level of thunderstorm risk. Texas Hill Country towns near Kerrville and other cities all the way to the Texas-Mexico border are under a marginal risk for severe storms. In San Antonio, Boerne, New Braunfels and up to Austin, thunderstorms are expected.

“There is a Level 1 of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening over the Southern Edwards Plateau and western Hill Country with large hail the most likely threat,” The National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio office warns for Monday evening.

Though, severe storm risks increase by Tuesday, with large hail and damaging winds threatening the Texas Hill Country. Excessive rainfall is the biggest risk for the region, however, with a Level 1 of 4 risk across Kerrville, Fredericksburg and Rocksprings.

“We could have a similar situation for Tuesday as the dry line once again tries to move farther east thus helping to spark off additional showers and storms once daytime heating commences, some of which may be severe,” the NWS office reports, noting the severe weather risks across Southern Edwards Plateau. “All severe hazards will be possible.”
