Las Cruces, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 29-year-old woman was arrested in El Paso after deputies said a 2-year-old child was found walking alone along a sidewalk Sunday evening.

On Sunday at about 6 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 500 block of Kearney Way for a report of a found child.

Deputies contacted the reporting party, who said she saw a 2-year-old child walking alone along the sidewalk.

Martinez told deputies the 2-year-old opened the front door on his own and had been outside for about 10 minutes before she realized he was gone.

During the investigation, deputies said they detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Martinez.

Deputies said she admitted to consuming alcohol and smoking marijuana while caring for the children.

Martinez was taken into custody and charged with abandoning or endangering a child.

She was transported to and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on one count of abandoning or endangering a child. Her bond was set at $2,500.
