EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — A Texas Tech Health El Paso faculty member was recognized with the Texas Tech University System’s highest honor for accomplishments in education, receiving the Distinguished Teaching and Research Award on Monday.
Rebecca Lee Campos, an assistant professor of family medicine, was chosen for the award by the Chancellor’s Council and was formally recognized during a ceremony on Monday for her contributions to medical research.
“It’s so flattering, and it’s a privilege to be able to receive something like that,” Campos said. “And being here has given me an opportunity to see different ways that people have been called to serve our population and our communities.”
Chancellor Brandon Creighton said Campos’ impact reaches beyond the university. “Certainly Dr. Campos’ work extends well beyond this institution for the quality of care and access to care that is central to the mission of our Health Sciences Center,” he said.
Since 1996, around 300 faculty members across the Texas Tech University System have been honored with the Distinguished Teaching Award.
“We’re honored to have our faculty member recognized with the Distinguished Teaching and Research Awards,” Richard Lange, M.D., M.B.A., president of Texas Tech Health El Paso, said. “This recognition reflects the exceptional caliber of educators and researchers at Texas Tech Health El Paso and their unwavering commitment to advancing health care education, discovery and patient care. It also underscores our mission to train the next generation of health care leaders who will improve health outcomes in historically underserved communities across our Borderplex.”
