CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 25-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning after police observed him attempting to break into an apartment, according to the Corpus Christi Police Department.
The arrest of Jamille Dejuan Harris, of Corpus Christi, took place during a planned surveillance operation coordinated by the Criminal Investigations Division Special Victims Unit. The operation included officers from the Violent Crimes Unit, Gang Unit, Drone Team, and Operations Division, stated the department. This operation was part of a series of similar efforts in response to a string of early morning burglaries over the past sixteen months near the intersection of Weber and Holly Roads.
The suspect in previous burglaries reportedly targeted apartments occupied by single women, entering through unlocked windows or sliding glass doors between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Victims described the intruder as a tall, thin Black or Hispanic male, often wearing a ski mask and dark clothing. Some victims reported being forcibly fondled or sexually molested before the suspect fled on foot.
On April 12, at approximately 4:40 a.m., a CCPD drone operator spotted a suspicious individual at an apartment complex on Caravelle Parkway. The operator followed the suspect, who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and light-colored pants, as he attempted to open a sliding glass door and peered over a patio fence. Uniformed officers quickly responded and took Harris into custody for attempted burglary, tampering with evidence, and evading arrest, along with two outstanding Nueces County warrants.
Following his arrest, detectives interviewed Harris and obtained a search warrant for his apartment within the same complex. Additional evidence was found linking Harris to at least one prior burglary, and the investigation is ongoing.
