Corpus Christi ISD school board member Marty Bell announced on April 13 that he has previously failed to abstain from votes in which he had a conflict of interest.
Bell serves on the Corpus Christi Independent School District Board of Trustees. Board members have legal and ethical obligations to disclose family relationships that constitute a conflict of interest and to abstain from matters involving those relationships.
“I’ve been advised that I’ve voted on matters in past years involving Allison Flooring, a vendor for the school district,” Bell said during a school board meeting.
Bell’s sister-in-law is vice president of Allison Flooring America.

Bell shared a statement during the April 13 school board meeting after a lengthy closed session. He said that he will abstain from any matters involving the company in the future and will resign from his officer position of vice president of the school board and his board committee assignments. Bell will remain a member of the school board.

“I hope this action demonstrates my commitment to the ethical obligations we have as board members of CCISD,” Bell said.
Bell told the Caller-Times after the meeting that he is now aware that he voted on items involving Allison Flooring five times between 2017 and 2024. Bell said that he previously hadn’t realized that he hadn’t followed policy.
A CCISD news release shared after the meeting states that a recent public information request led to a review of required filings and revealed that Bell hadn’t abstained in multiple votes awarding vendor contracts to Allison Flooring.
