AUSTIN, Texas — On March 1, gunshots rang out in downtown Austin. The shooter killed three innocent people and injured over a dozen. Since the night of the attack, more than 150 FBI agents have supported the ongoing investigation into what led to the shooter’s actions, according to a news release from the FBI.
The FBI’s digital images and video recovery team has gathered over 2,000 digital images. This includes other camera footage, which is being processed for analysis.
Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said Texans can expect law enforcement to talk further about this investigation in a couple of weeks. This is the first time Spectrum News has received an update on the investigation since the first week of the shooting, which is not uncommon during an active and ongoing investigation.
“Was this a lone person who had some ideology? You know, pro-Iranian type of sentiment, all of those things? Or was it something more, you know, more in-depth there. And so those are things that are being looked at. And I think at this point, it’s important for us to get this right for the families,” said Davis.
Davis said the first people who will be updated on the investigation are the three families who lost loved ones in this tragedy. She reiterated the importance of getting this investigation right.
