Nonprofit reports $500 to $1,000 in losses after break-in. Seeking community help to replace stolen items.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A local nonprofit that supports vulnerable children is dealing with theft and damage after a weekend break-in.
Officials with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) say a detached storage unit was burglarized, with several items stolen and property damaged.
CEO Page Hall said the organization is still taking inventory, but confirmed at least three tents and multiple water jugs are missing.
Hall estimates the total loss and damage to the storage container will cost between $500 and $1,000. Hall said the suspects used bolt cutters to break the locks after first damaging the locking mechanism.
The theft comes just days before an upcoming event, forcing the nonprofit to replace some of the stolen items quickly. Hall said two tents have already been ordered, but replacing all three was not in the budget.
CASA is now hoping community donors will help cover the remaining losses and replace the missing supplies.
According to Hall, this marks the third or fourth time the organization has been targeted in a burglary during her 30 years as CEO.
The incident has been reported to the Corpus Christi Police Department, and an investigation is ongoing.
