Corpus Christi police detain suspect in apartment break-ins

CORPUS CHRISTI — Police say drone surveillance helped lead to the arrest of a man accused of attempting to break into an apartment during an early-morning operation tied to an ongoing burglary investigation.
The Corpus Christi Police Department said Jamille Dejuan Harris was arrested Sunday at an apartment complex in the 3800 block of Caravelle Parkway during a coordinated operation involving the Criminal Investigations Division Special Victims Unit, along with the Violent Crimes Unit, Gang Unit, Drone Team and Operations Division.
Officials said the surveillance effort was part of an ongoing investigation into a series of early-morning apartment burglaries reported over the past 16 months near Weber Road and Holly Road.
According to police, drone operators observed a suspicious individual around 4:40 a.m. moving between buildings at the complex. The suspect was seen entering a patio area, attempting to open a sliding glass door, and later looking into another apartment before continuing through the property.
Police said officers detained Harris after identifying him at the scene. He was arrested on charges including burglary of a habitation, assault causing bodily injury and two counts of evading arrest or detention, according to Nueces County Jail records.
Bond was set at $25,000 for the assault charge, $10,000 for one evading charge and $3,500 for the second evading charge. He remains held without bond on the burglary charge.

Following the arrest, detectives executed a search warrant at Harris’ nearby apartment within the same complex. Authorities said additional evidence linking him to at least one prior burglary was recovered, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Police said the burglaries under investigation involved unauthorized entries into apartments, often during early morning hours, with victims in some cases reporting intruders inside their bedrooms.
Officials said further charges may be filed.
