CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Two people were hospitalized in critical condition after a small plane crashed near the Corpus Christi International Airport on Monday evening.
Corpus Christi first responders were called around 7:20 p.m. to a reported airplane crash on Highway 44 Frontage Road.
Crews arrived to find a small aircraft down on the frontage road that was on fire, according to the Corpus Christi Fire Department.
Splendid Aviation, a flight school, said an instructor and student were onboard one of their training aircrafts when they came into contact with some power lines, according to a Facebook post.
The two occupants of the plane were rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. They were later transferred to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
In an incident report, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said a Piper PA-28 crashed under unknown circumstances during approach phase.
The flight school says they are fully cooperating with the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) as they investigate the circumstances of the crash.
