LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Texas Tech is showing off its excitement and celebrating time-honored traditions this Homecoming Week.
Tate Hutchinson was last year’s Homecoming King.
He says he has experienced a few different homecoming traditions at different schools, but he believes the traditions at Tech can’t be beat.
“I know Oklahoma State is kind of deemed the best homecoming in America, and getting to experience both, I may be biased, but I do think Texas Tech’s is unmatched,” Hutchinson said.
Sebastian Pasillas, a master’s student at Tech, is experiencing his first homecoming, and says he feels right at home.
“Everybody here is really welcoming and it just feels like home here,” Pasillas said. “I tell people to come to Lubbock and they’re like ‘What do you mean?’ I was like, you will go and you will never want to leave. I have already had that happen with my friends and it’s pretty nice.”
Mckeely Underwood was last year’s Homecoming Queen. She says her favorite tradition is the Techsan Memorial.
“I would say it’s the Techsan Memorial, which is our memorial to honor all our past Red Raiders who have passed away,” Underwood said. “It’s really nice to see the Tech community come together for something bigger than itself and just have everybody rally together and honor everybody, so that is probably my favorite ‘cause it really touches home.”
