McALLEN, Texas – , calling for a renewal of the Rio Grande Valley he grew up in – a place once defined by opportunity, affordability, and a strong sense of community – and pledging to restore that promise for his neighbors.
Salinas is running on a platform focused on an affordable Valley for working families, strengthening public schools, and restoring trust in local leadership.
“My family’s story is the story of the Valley’s promise,” Salinas said. “My father was the son of migrant farmers. My family settled here, got an education, worked hard, and built a middle-class life for my sister and me. Coming from nothing, they knew the struggle but also knew that hard work paid off. Today, that path of opportunity is broken. Living in the Valley was never easy, but it shouldn’t be this hard.”
Salinas’s upbringing deeply informs his commitment to the district. He speaks candidly about the challenges he faced as a student who started school speaking only Spanish, noting, “Teachers are overworked and the system is not made to uplift bilingual students. I relied on my community to get back on track. Community was the RGV’s strength, and it’s something we must reclaim.”
At a time when too many families in HD-41 are being crushed by rising housing costs, healthcare bills, and property taxes, the new generation of RGV leaders must be willing to show up and fight for their community.
Salinas emphasized that this campaign is a grassroots effort centered on the needs of neighbors, not the influence of special interests. “I know I’ll be up against powerful interests with deep pockets,” Salinas said. “But this is a scrappy community campaign, and it belongs to the working families that built the RGV. It’s about neighbors coming together to rebuild trust in our leaders and in each other. This campaign will not be easy, but this is a critical moment for the future of the Valley and failure is NOT an option.”
