After a rough weekend in College Station, Texas baseball bounced back against Texas A&M‘s sister school Tuesday night.

Junior catcher Carson Tinney homered, doubled and produced a career-high five RBIs as Texas recorded a 14-7 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Texas allowed five runs in the top of Tuesday’s first inning, but the Longhorns eventually seized control of the scoreboard in the fifth frame and never looked back.

The Longhorns were coming off a weekend in which they lost twice at Texas A&M and then had their Sunday showdown with the Aggies cancelled by inclement weather. Following those two losses, Texas dropped to No. 4 in the D1Baseball poll. But with Tuesday’s win, Texas is now 28-7 on the season with a three-game series against No. 11 Alabama set to start this Friday.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is 16-20 following Tuesday’s defeat.

After adding an RBI double from Aiden Robbins to its box score in the eighth inning, Texas is three outs away from a win. The sixth pitcher of UT’s night, Cal Higgins will attempt to close out this game.

After a two-run single in the sixth inning, UT junior catcher Carson Tinney has produced a season-high five RBIs in this game. Tinney is 3-for-4 with a double and homer tonight.

During the sixth inning, Texas also stole six bases. The Longhorns hadn’t had a six-steal game since the 2021 season.

For the first time tonight, UT has gained a lead over its guests from Corpus Christi. Texas designated hitter Josh Livingston just drew a bases-loaded walk to snap a 6-6 tie.

After the Islanders made a pitching change, UT pulled further ahead on Dariyan Pendergrass’ RBI single and Carson Tinney’s run-scoring groundout. A strikeout of Anthony Pack Jr. did leave the bases loaded.

Texas has struggled to find an answer for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi cleanup hitter Jarrett Flaggert. So far, Flaggert is 3-for-3 with two singles and a home run. Flaggert is responsible for two runs and three RBIs, and he has gotten a hit off of Michael Winter, Kade Bing and Hudson Hamilton.

With Texas trailing 6-2, the bottom of the Longhorn lineup cut that deficit in half as Josh Livingston produced an RBI single from the No. 8 spot in the batting order and No. 9 hitter Dariyan Pendergrass contributed a run-scoring flyout. Carson Tinney, who bats second for UT, then drove in a run with an RBI double.

After a pitching change, Texas cleanup hitter Anthony Pack Jr. tied the game when his double to left field brought Tinney home. On that play, however, Aiden Robbins was thrown out at the plate for the fourth inning’s third out.

End 3: Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 6, Texas 2

After Texas A&M-Corpus Christi went deep in the third inning’s top half, Texas matched that display of power in the inning’s bottom half. Texas slugger Carson Tinney’s 13th homer of the season has pulled the Longhorn back within four runs.

Kade Bing became the third UT pitcher to allow a run tonight when the junior left-hander served up a solo homer to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s Jarrett Flaggert, who has gone deep four times over his last three games. As bad as things have been for the Longhorns so far, two double plays have prevented things from being even worse.

End 2: Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 5, Texas 1

Texas came up empty in the second inning in its attempt to cut into the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi lead. Matthew Molina’s strikeout of Ethan Mendoza stranded two Longhorns on base.

The second inning featured the first at-bat of the season for Dariyan Pendergrass, a fifth-year outfielder who joined the Longhorns in December as a transfer from College of Charleston. Pendergrass had appeared in three previous games as a pinch-runner and two games as a late-inning defensive replacement. Given the start in right field against the Islanders, Pendergrass drew a two-out walk on Tuesday in his first plate appearance of the season.

Thanks to some aggressive baserunning, Texas also got on the scoreboard in the first inning. After Ethan Mendoza drew a leadoff walk, stole second base and moved to third base on a throwing error by Islander catcher Hunter Azemar, Anthony Pack Jr. drove home UT’s first run on a sacrifice flyout.

With freshman Michael Winter on the mound, Texas immediately stumbled in Tuesday’s first inning. While singling three times and drawing a walk, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi got its first four runners aboard against Winter. The last of those hits by Jarrett Flaggert drove in two runs and forced the Longhorns to make an early pitching change.

After UT turned to senior Max Grubbs, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi added three more runs on Max Towchik’s two-run single and  Austin Russell’s RBI single. Four of the Islanders’ runs were charged to Winter, who pitched an inning in Saturday’s 11-4 loss at Texas A&M after not appearing in any games since March 8.

Winter entered Tuesday’s game with a 0.00 ERA over 7 â…” innings. He now has a 4.70 ERA.
