If your commute feels brutal in the Bayou City, there’s a reason — Houston highways lead Texas in congestion.
A state analysis found that 36 roadways in the Texas Department of Transportation’s Houston district rank among the state’s 100 most congested. The Houston metro accounts for seven of the top 10.

Researchers analyzed traffic on more than 2,100 road segments by measuring speeds during delays, speeds when roads are clear and traffic volumes every 15 minutes throughout the week. Rapid population and job growth drove congestion in major metros such as Houston.
