Students at 15 Fort Worth schools, who were slated to attend an extra month of class this year, could now start their summer break at the same time as their peers.

Fort Worth ISD’s Board of Managers will consider rescheduling the Additional Days School Year calendar for certain campuses that had planned to stay in school through the end of June. The proposed change would give staff more time to prepare for the program’s scheduling and staffing for the 2026-27 school year, according to district documents. The board will vote on the change at its meeting Tuesday night.

The impacted schools are:

Edward J. Briscoe Elementary

Clifford Davis Elementary

Van Zandt-Guinn Elementary

“The district will use a longer planning runway to build campus readiness, train staff, and align expanded learning to clear academic priorities — particularly in literacy and mathematics,” according to district staff.

In July 2025, prior to the state takeover of Fort Worth ISD and the appointment of the Board of Managers in March, the elected school board at the time approved the schedule for the current school year to provide more instructional time to students. These schools planned to have 25 additional school days, dismissing students on June 30. The regular school year ends on May 21.

Some of these schools already planned to close at the end of the current school year as part of an existing facilities master plan that includes shuttering almost 20 schools over the next three years. Briscoe Elementary and Western Hills Primary will permanently close their doors to students this summer.

The Board of Managers will vote on the change after discussing a reduction in force related to the previously approved school closures.
